Dear Contra Costa District 4 Neighbor:

You are among the first to know, and I am excited to announce, that I have decided to run for the open District 4 seat on the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors. I am seeking this new office because I love helping people and solving problems. For the past 12 years, it has been my privilege to serve the residents of Concord with the goal of helping government work better, connecting constituents to solutions that improve their lives.

I have worked at both the local and regional level to address some of our biggest challenges. As a former Concord Mayor and current City Councilmember, I have secured funds to restore, repair, and improve the quality of our roads, supported small businesses by authoring the City of Concord Small Business Rent Relief Program, expanded services to support our most vulnerable neighbors, approved more housing at all affordability levels, delivered cleaner parks and balanced budgets, and protected our community’s vision for the former Concord Naval Weapons Station.

At the same time, I have worked at a regional level, as a member of the Diablo Valley Tech Initiative, the East Bay Economic Development Alliance, the East Bay Regional Parks District Parks Advisory Committee, and TRANSPAC to foster our tech sector, create a roadmap for economic success, grow and maintain our beloved regional parks system, and improve our transportation network.

As we emerge from the pandemic, Contra Costa County faces important decisions about our future. The pandemic drove home for me the importance of the county as our social safety net. Some challenges are just too big for any one city to solve alone. Concord, Clayton, Pleasant Hill, and Walnut Creek need strong partnerships with their County Supervisor to successfully address challenges stemming from homelessness, behavioral health and substance abuse, since the county operates the programs and receives the funding to provide most social services. I stand ready to be that partner.

My priorities on the Board of Supervisors will build upon what I have prioritized on the Concord City Council: ensuring that our county government fixes our roads, expands access to affordable health care, creates opportunities for more supportive housing, protects our community, and nurtures the local economy to ensure all residents can live and work here.
